SENSORS
DENODL® SOIL SENSORS FAMILY
Our sensors are based on a new paradigm in measurement systems. Forget about data loggers and other equipment that drive up installation costs. Simplicity, connectivity, ruggedness, and measurement capability are DENODL’s goals.
SIMPLICITY
All probes are completely autonomous. They do not require a wired connection to other equipment. This allows them to be installed completely underground, protecting them from passing machinery.
They are configured by enabling Bluetooth functionality, and through the DENODL® App, they integrate into the user’s facility. The system retrieves the GPS coordinates from the mobile device used to configure the probe.
CONNECTIVITY
Bluetooth is used to configure the sensor for the first time.
Measurements are sent to the cloud using various technologies, depending on the model: LoRaWAN and NB-IoT or LTE-M for cellular network connectivity.
ROBUSTNESS
The probes are compact and meet the IP68 protection classification. They are capable of operating under extreme temperature and humidity conditions. They have been tested at temperatures ranging from -20°C (68°F) to 80°C (176°F).
MEASUREMENT CAPABILITY
All probes offer measurement capabilities that are unique in the market. Among other things, they can measure volumetric water content and water potential, which are the two most relevant soil parameters from a hydrological standpoint. Water potential is the force, measured in kilopascals, that a plant’s roots must exert to extract water from the soil. In sandy soil, less force is required, whereas in clay soil, more force is needed.
Both measurements can be used to generate the soil suction curve, which helps us understand soil dynamics and classify the soil according to the twelve standard USDA soil textures. Coming soon to the DENODL® App, we’ll be able to view the soil particle size distribution, derived from the suction curve.
